P1005   Jini & Friends @ Work: Towards secured service access

D6/TI5 Deployment of Jini services in an insecure environment
Issue date: November  2001
Confidentiality: For full publication
Format: 1 volume ( 22 pages)
Abstract: Jini specification does not state what kind of a security infrastructure should be used to ensure secure transactions between parties in a Jini community. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and the newer Simple Public Key Infrastructure (SPKI) seem to be the best technologies for this, and e-Speak already uses a security infrastructure based on SPKI. In this report we discuss the use of PKI and SPKI in spontaneous systems like Jini and e-Speak. The trade-off between spontaneity and the security requirements is analysed as well.
